About Rizla
Rizla is Australia's only Riesling-focused wine bar and restaurant, on the corner of Lonsdale and Elouera Streets in Braddon. It was built to make wine feel open, welcoming and unpretentious, for first-time Riesling drinkers and wine lovers alike.
The idea began in the summer of 2014/15, when owner Andy Day was Cellar Manager at Eightysix next door and saw the corner site, then a small takeaway shop, as the right spot for an outdoor wine bar. Andy later bought the business, and Rizla opened in September 2019.
What sets Rizla apart:
Riesling first. Australia's only single-variety-focused wine bar. 10+ Rieslings by the glass and up to 70 bottles, from bright and zesty to rich, textured and aged styles.
An award-winning, fast-changing list. Winner, Best Wine List, Australia's Wine List of the Year Awards, 2023 and 2025. The list changes almost daily (the record is 26 changes in one week).
Canberra District champion. Local producers feature strongly, alongside wines from across Australia, France, Germany and Austria.
Food built for the wine. A seasonal, share-style menu designed to complement what is in the glass.
Team: owner Andy Day; front-of-house lead Tommy Taylor (with Rizla for more than four years); head of kitchen Sulav Payani (since 2023).
